Our three days with KIWT were the best three days we have ever spent anywhere. This is truly the hidden gem of Australia, and KIWT helps you experience it in the best way possible. Chris picked us up at the KI airport at 7:30 (the early flight) in the Land Rover. There was myself, interested in all aspects of science and nature, and my two twenty-something daughters, who wanted to have fun. For two days, Chris, and on the third day, Bill, exceeded all our expectations. They both bonded with the girls and fostered a curiosity and excitement about everything we saw and what we might see next. August is cool and sometimes showery, but they have fantastic, warm, hooded raincoats, so no need to miss anything. Even the daughters enjoyed the raincoats on the one showery day. And on two of the three days, it was just us. But what made this so special was Chris and Bill. Chris, with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things in Australian nature, patiently answered my million questions. He picked up on our personalities so well, and the girls were more interested and animated than ever. He could spot anything, perhaps just a bird in a tree, and make it fascinating. If one of us saw something, the brakes went on, we turned around, and went to take a look. We were never rushed in any way, were able to stop and see things not on the itinerary. Bill, our guide on the third day, was different but just as engaging. He and Chris had talked the evening before (thank you both!) so that he would know what we liked to do. It was on Bill’s watch that we had the most special experience of our lives – interacting with a joey. The third day is always a private tour, so we were able to see new places and to return to the special one we had to see again. Also, kudos to Pam, who provides all the elaborate picnic lunches and snacks. She is amazing. So, I have let the secret out, but I have already been there. If I return to Australia, I may just spend the whole time with KIWT. USA
